One 60-day cruise circling the Land Down Under is being halted following the death of an elderly female passenger who was abandoned by the vessel on a remote tropical isle.

The elderly woman had been walking on the tropical location with fellow passengers from the cruise ship, but broke off from the group for a rest. The liner left without her and went back after some time after the personnel realised the lady was not present.

A large-scale search operation discovered her person the following day.

Investigative bodies are investigating the event, in coordination with law enforcement and the official investigator.

The CEO of the shipping company said that guests and crew on the Coral Adventurer were informed that the rest of the cruise had been called off due to the "tragic passing and prior mechanical issues".
